Stephanie Braming, CFA, partner, global head of William Blair Investment Management LLC, was named a most powerful woman in finance by American Banker magazine.
The rankings, released on Oct. 6, recognize the nation’s top 25 women working in finance.
Braming joined William Blair in 2004 and was promoted to head the firm’s investment management team worldwide in 2017. Braming leads 326 employees in 20 cities worldwide. William Blair Investment Management has $74 billion in client assets under management as of 6/30/2021.
During the worldwide COVID lockdown, she leaned into strategic initiatives to continue expanding the team’s reach. Among her achievements was spearheading in 2021 William Blair’s first major acquisition of an institutional U.S. value equity investment firm, ICM.
She is also a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and the promotion of women, noting one of the main changes was turning intent into action.
Braming tells American Banker in an interview that involves revamping the recruiting process and working with groups like Girls Who Invest to scout for employee prospects and interns.
