I’m in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for the 2024 Alpha Challenge, an investment pitch competition. William Blair is the title sponsor, and this year marks the twentieth anniversary of the event. Top M.B.A. and undergraduate students from schools like UNC Chapel Hill, Harvard, and Northwestern presented their ideas for long equity and credit strategies. The team from UNC took the top equity prize after pitching Advanced Drainage Systems. It was really cool to see a group of young people share innovative and unique perspectives on investment strategies, and their ability to think critically and creatively in high-pressure environments was really impressive.
