William Blair's Art Simon was named to Crain's inaugural Notable General Counsels list published on October 28.
The list showcases Chicago-area lawyers recognized for their leadership and contributions to the workplace and the community.
Simon, who joined William Blair in 2000, is responsible for the firm's regulatory compliance and overseas legal matters across William Blair's businesses including investment banking, investment management, and private wealth management. He is a member of the firm's governing eight-member executive committee.
Recently, Simon was integral in advising the private wealth management unit on integrating seven veteran wealth advisors who managed more than $3 billion in client assets. He advised the firm in its latest overseas expansions by leading regulatory efforts to register offices in Shanghai and Amsterdam. Simon continues to be a key advisor on legal strategies related to Brexit and MiFID II, and in the creation of new products such as China A Shares and five ESG sustainability strategies. Simon is also actively involved in the firm's inclusion and diversity efforts.
Before joining William Blair, Simon was in private practice for 21 years working with registered investment companies, investment advisors and financial services firms in the United States and overseas.
