William Blair research analyst Sharon Zackfia was featured in the The Wall Street Journal, where she added her perspective on how the automotive dealership industry has benefited from a strategy started in the supply-chain-impacted COVID era—buying up used cars from individuals in droves to ensure that inventory and profit numbers are strong.
Zackfia told the publication that this strategy is benefitted by the auto dealers’ generally more sophisticated understanding of what a car is worth at purchase, from a wholesale auction for example, and at resale than the general consumer.
